Meet Our Musicians

Cello, Piano

April has many ‘strings’ to her bow – playing cello and piano – and brings great enthusiasm and a love for performance to every event.

April is your typical multi-tasker who enjoys the juggle of managing and performing with Shoalhaven Strings, working as an Environmental Consultant with Cardno, and keeping busy raising two cheeky children.  April has performed as a soloist and as part of ensembles in Melbourne, Wollongong, Canberra, Sydney, Japan and New Zealand.  Most notably, she has performed with the Melbourne Youth Orchestra, WIN Wollongong Symphony Orchestra, and has worked with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra as composer.

Jacob is our master of electric violin who always brings a sense of humour to every event.

Jacob has taught music at numerous primary and secondary school in the Shoalhaven, Southern Highlands and Goulburn areas since 2011.  Most notably, he has been a long-standing Musical Director of the Shoalhaven Youth Orchestra and the Shoalhaven Junior Strings programmes.  He currently leads the second violin section of the Steel City Strings, and when not playing or teaching music, flies planes and competing in nation-wide aerobatic competitions.

Joseph is our wonderful guitarist who can meet any musical challenge.

Joseph lives and breathes music, and is currently employed as a Music Therapist with Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Australia.  A versatile musician, Joseph is also an accomplished saxophonist, pianist and composer.  As a composer, he has had great success with performances by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and Sydney Sinfonia, while also having worked with the IHOS Opera Company.

Joanna is our lovely violinist who plays with great warmth and attention to detail.

Joanna is currently employed as a primary school teacher, while also instilling a passion for music into the younger generations in the Shoalhaven region through her involvement with the Shoalhaven Youth Orchestra, Tuning In children’s music program, and private tuition of violin and viola. In 2013, she received a nomination for an Australia Day Citizen award for her work with young musician in Nowra.  Joanna has performed on violin and viola with the Australian Youth Orchestra, Kur-ring-gai Philharmonic, Steel City Strings, Vatiliotis Quartet and WIN Wollongong Symphony Orchestra.
